To QATA members,

Please see the invitation below from the UQ Art Museum. The Masterclass will be held on the 9th March, 2016.
Please contact Gillian Ridsdale for more information or to book your place.

Dear colleagues,

We are offering you, and your senior students, the opportunity to attend a masterclass with Fiona McMonagle, in association with the National Self-Portrait Prize (NSPP) exhibition at the UQ Art Museum. Curated by Michael Desmond, former Deputy Director of the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra, this invitation-only exhibition is held by The University of Queensland every two years. The winning work is selected by an independent judge of national stature.

Participating students will take part in an interactive two-hour masterclass with Melbourne artist, Fiona McMonagle, the winner of the 2015 prize. In response to the curatorial theme of ‘becoming’, Fiona painted one self-portrait every day at 7.00pm for 100 days, see

Students will learn about the materials and techniques Fiona uses, experiment with their own sense of self and identity in a making task, and share their responses in group discussion on the role of self-portraiture in contemporary arts practice.
