Creative Generation: In residence — Nominate your Year 10 students now

In 2018, the Department of Education, supported by the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) will deliver In residence  — a three day program for Year 10 Queensland visual art students to enrich their art practice in preparation for Senior Visual Art.

Held at QAGOMA, In residence will take place 4 – 6 December 2018. Throughout the three days, students will engage with The 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT9) exhibition, artists, QAGOMA and tertiary partners as they participate in creative making and responding workshops. The program will enable participants to strengthen their understanding of the academic, experimental, collaborative, and reflective nature of contemporary visual art and gain an appreciation for the breadth of opportunities in the creative industries.

The 2018 program is open to all Year 10 Queensland state and non-state school students. Travel subsidies will be provided.

How to apply?

Teachers can nominate their students by visiting the In residence nomination website.

Year 10 students are required to develop a response to the featured artwork from the QAGOMA Collection.
The featured artwork for the program this year is Lisa Reihana’s in Pursuit of Venus (infected), which will feature in the APT9 exhibition. This is an excellent work to begin discussions about Art as lens and contemporary context.

The student’s response must be authentic and communicate their reaction, interpretation or connection to the artwork. Suggested formats:

  • a written work in a genre of the student’s choice, or
  • a video, or
  • visual journal pages (maximum 2 pages).

The Department and Gallery will review applications, and will finalise up to 20 students selected from seven regions to participate.

Nominations close at 5pm Friday 12 October 2018.

Teachers will be notified of outcomes by 19 October 2018.

Applications are also open for early career regional Visual Art teachers to join this program for professional development.

Travel subsidies will be provided. Look out for more information in QAGOMA Learning teacher programs.
