Design Minds Professional Development Day
Wednesday, April 24, 2013; State Library of Queensland, 9am-3:30pm
Learn to use design thinking to develop the capabilities of successful and creative 21st century citizens within existing education and learning benchmarks.
Design Minds is a central online location for design education resources accessible by educators and students across Queensland and supported through State Library of Queensland’s Design Online website and Education Queensland’s The Learning Place.
The workshop will take teachers through exercises in the three Design Minds phases (inquire, ideate, implement) and demonstrate the use of design toolkits in a classroom environment. You will be supported on the day by a group of design mentors, practicing designers and educators currently using design thinking in the classroom, and three guest presenters will cover the following topics:
- Global trends in design education (Peter Hall, Head of Design, Queensland College of Art, Griffith University)
- New Techniques for creative problem-solving in the classroom (Paul Fairweather, TedX Brisbane and Ideas)
- Tips for using design to create local community partnerships (Angela Crossland, Partnership Broker, The Smith Family)
Places are limited to 20.
