Dear QATA members
We hope you had a lovely break over the holidays and that term 4 has begun well. It’s such a busy time and there is so much happening. This newsletter will highlight a few important events and opportunities.
- Metro cluster meeting
There will be a meeting to discuss the new syllabus implementation at Cannon Hill Anglican College on Wed 30 October. This meeting is open to all and we look forward to sharing our implementation strategies. Jo and Megan from QCAA will attend to answer questions. Thanks to Jen and Colleen at CHAC for hosting. We look forward to seeing lots of you there. Please book in via the calendar so we know how many to expect.

2. AGM – hope to see you there
The QATA AGM will be on Saturday 16 November, 9.00-11.30am. Please save the date. The Museum of Brisbane will host the AGM and are kindly providing morning tea and a tour of New Woman. It’s shaping up to be a treat. Hopefully you can make some time in your busy schedule for some art and professional ‘me’ time.

Please book in via the calendar as places are limited to 30. At the AGM all the executive positions will be up for grabs and we’d love to hear from anyone who’d like a role. Among other benefits of being involved in your professional association, it’s a fabulous way of capturing evidence for a Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher application.
Looking forward to a big catch up with everyone. We’d particularly like to hear from teachers outside the metro area and find out how you would like QATA to support you, teachers in your area, and your students. Contact us on [email protected] Parking under King George Square is $5 on weekends.
3. Visual Art confirmers needed

The QCAA is keen for more applications for Visual Art confirmer. Whilst applications for confirmers close today, QCAA will still be accepting applications through the Assessor Jobs tile in the QCAA Portal. This is honestly the best syllabus PD you can do and it is also excellent leadership experience for a highly accomplished or lead teacher application. We encourage everyone to get involved.
The first stage of selection (notional appointment) will be based on information provided in your application such as teaching experience and previous roles performed with the QCAA or equivalent interstate or overseas jurisdictions. Teachers who have not previously been QCAA panellists are also encouraged to apply. For Chief confirmer roles, there may be a phone interview process. Notional appointees will complete a training program in February/March 2020. Training will occur across the state. Lead and Chief confirmers will complete an additional one-day role-specific training program in Term 1, 2020. Appointments will be formalised subject to satisfactory completion of the training sessions.
Once appointed, QCAA assessors (confirmation) will need to:
- attend confirmation event 1 — Tuesday 21 April to Friday 24 April 2020 (one day per subject)
- attend confirmation event 2 — Friday 4 September and Saturday 5 September 2020 (both days) QCAA assessors (confirmation) may also be required to do some work outside of the confirmation events.
The location of confirmation events is dependent on the QCAA assessors (confirmation) appointed. It is anticipated that events will be held in Brisbane, Rockhampton and Townsville. Additional locations may be added following confirmer selection and training. At the confirmation events you will have lots of support.
4. QATA conference 2020 save the date!
We are pleased to announce the 2020 conference will be held on July 17 and 18, 2020. More information to follow soon, as the hardworking conference committee start to pull it together.
