2. Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art – regional coordinator support wanted

We seek your support in volunteering to assist your region’s 2014 regional coordinator for the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art.

All seven regions now have 2014 regional coordinator’s but for those who still want to be involved, this is your opportunity.  It is encouraged that two people manage the role together to share the workload.

We are looking for those interested in assisting the South East, Darling Downs South West and Metropolitan regions.

A brief overview of the main roles and responsibilities:

  • promoting the awards to schools and teachers ensuring they are aware of key dates, guidelines and entry requirements, regional exhibition information and workshop information
  • coordinating the regional exhibition for the South East region. All students who submit works from the region are invited to exhibit and attend an official opening event where award recipients are announced.

The Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art is the highlight of my school year. It is incredibly rewarding to create an opportunity for students to display their work in a professional context and draw public attention to their commitment to the arts. The regional coordinator role allows me to network with an eclectic assortment of teachers and strengthens my skills with events management. The personal feeling of accomplishment and voluntary service the local region pays dividends. (Annabel Simmonds, 2013 Metropolitan regional coordinator).

If you are interested in supporting the regional coordinator please contact the program manager, Holley Wiles on 322 22721 or [email protected].

3. Boy’s Art Education Symposium 2014 – Call for Panel, Call for Papers

We are pleased to announce the Call for Panelists and Papers for the 2014 Boy’s Art Education Symposium which will be held at St Edmund’s 3rd – 5th July 2014. Submissions close March 29th

The theme of the symposium is ‘Breaking the Stereotypes’.   This exciting symposium will challenge the notion of boy’s disengagement in secondary school Visual Arts; and seek to promote boys art education in a healthy and meaningful way. The theme aims to explore the inquiry and framing of the complex issues faced by art educators today; including the pedagogies and technologies that facilitate boy’s creative needs.

This symposium will be celebrating the achievements of boys in visual arts through presentations, artist’s talks, gallery visits, workshops and case studies. We welcome submissions from educators and researchers to peer review papers, to be presented to an anticipated audience of secondary art educators, pre-service educators, school leaders and policy makers.

Proposals for the 2014 Boy’s Art Education Symposium Panel and paper submissions should be submitted by March 29th 2014. Each proposal should include title short abstract of 300 words, with inclusion of any technical requirements. Notification of accepted panel and paper proposals will be received by April 21st.
