QATACON23 PROGRAM

NEED TO KNOW WHAT TO BRING FOR WORKSHOPS?
It’s all in the program!

Looking for a past program? All of the QATACON programs can be found in Downloads.

QATACON23 has reached capacity!

Humanitix ticket not showing all of your sessions?

We are aware of a glitch in the Humanintix system, but don’t worry it’s only on the ticket. We have all of your sessions registered and you will get a personalised program on your lanyard when you arrive.

The theme of QATACON 2023 is Perspectives.

Perspectives are ways of looking. We gather impressions and understandings (of people, places, events, ideas, and emotions) based on our perspective – the position we are looking from, when we are looking, and the relationships we observe as we look.

When we talk about and use perspectives in the classroom, we encourage students to change the way they are looking to create a new or refined response. At QATACON 2023, we are exploring perspectives in more detail.

Join us in July 2023, as we discover how:

  • position can be physical or based on experience or ideologies, and our position or proximity to something affects our perspective
  • the point in time we are looking from affects our perspective too, for example, when we look backwards (into the past) we may apply a retrospective or nostalgic lens
  • aspects of something relate to one another and to the whole (relative perspective) allow us to make judgements, based on what we already know or feel
  • finding a new perspective can unlock creativity.

Want to be involved?

  • Create our hero image! We’re looking for a wonderfully skilled teacher/creator to make an artwork that says, ‘Perspectives’, to feature on the front of our program and across our communications. Featured artists receive a discounted ticket price and feature in our program.
  • Nominate to be part of our teacher showcase – an incredibly event where we hear from our subject-matter experts (you) about practical teaching methodology. Showcase teachers receive a discounted ticket price and this is a great opportunity to gather evidence towards Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher certification.
  • Submit a middle-years (Years 5-9) student’s artwork to feature on the front of our QATACON 2023 tote bags (submissions open Term 1, 2023). The artwork must be made in the year of the conference. The student will receive a complimentary tote bag, and the teacher will be invited to present the associated learning activity.

Keep an eye out for more information and terms and conditions soon. Any other questions or comments? Send us an email, at [email protected]

We’ll be gathering a terrific group of artists, teachers and inspirational presenters to share multiple perspectives through art practice, pedagogy and new ways of working with curriculum.

We are so happy to be working again with the wonderful people and facilities at TAFE Qld Southbank and Griffith University – Qld College of Art.

We’ve listened to your feedback and will be introducing a practical session in the Friday program where you can collaborate and get to know the teachers in your region and we will try to squeeze a bit more time in the workshop sessions on Saturday.

You will also notice that we’ve moved our online ticketing and registrations over to Humanitix. While we can’t avoid ticketing fees for registration, we are pleased to support Humanitix which sends 100% of registration fees to charities that support disadvantaged kids around the world to access education. (It should also be a bit cheaper for you and your school budgets.)

We are looking for:

Yes, you can. We hope you will! Please rsvp for either event during registration. Thursday is a ticketed event and Friday is complimentary.

Why are some of the workshop choices unavailable when I register in Humanitix?

Workshops have capacity of between 15-25 participants depending on the room capicity, material use or presenter preferences. Some workshops have filled and will be unavailable.  But don’t worry, all of the remaining choices are just as valuable. Be sure to check both morning and afternoon sessions as most are offered twice and each one may not be full.
