Photography and Printing: a case study to examine strategies for the new senior art syllabus. Working through the four inquiry processes described in the new syllabus: Reflecting, Developing, Researching and Resolving, the workshop will focus on the development of visual language in the context of photography printing and drawing. Of the four contexts suggested for the first two units of the syllabus, ‘personal, contemporary, formal and cultural’, the workshop will concentrate on three ‘personal, contemporary and formal’.
A lecture will be presented by artists/ workshop leaders Marian Drew and Bruce Reynolds examining a reverse chronology within their own practice as well as some relevant contemporary international artists.
This workshop synthesizes printing and photography in various ways that indicate and encourage pathways for new work methods.
Participants will test strategies, exploring various processes of media application. Drawing, painting, printing, collage and photography are fluidly combined. The digital and the handmade become integrated in an iterative and reflective methodology. This process oriented strategy drives experimentation through formal concerns and at the same time encouraging the reflection and development of ideas in response to works. It is particularly applicable to the Art as Lens unit in the new Senior Syllabus.
