QATA is building on its event series, BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND. We have invited one of our most popular artists from QATACON23, Kitty Horton to conduct a workshop on mark making and photographic transfer
⭐️About the artist:
Brisbane-based artist Kitty Horton completed her Bachelor of Fine Art at QCA, Griffith University and her Graduate Diploma of Secondary Education with QUT. She has exhibited solo shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, along with group shows nationally throughout Australia. In addition to Kitty’s private art practice, she is a vocational teacher for TAFE Qld Brisbane. She teaches drawing, painting, printmaking, and professional practice. Her art practice explores the relationship between dry media drawing and oil painting, using themes of abstraction, colour theory and mark making. Inspired by the American Minimalists, Kitty responds to her surroundings through distorted shapes, forms and motifs. Mark-making and serendipitous outcomes, exploit the relationship between painting and drawing in her work.

The theme of QATACON24 is “Create the Future.”
⭐️What lies in the future for the students we teach? We don’t really have answers, do we?
⭐️We can imagine and predict a future in which technology dominates, but at the end of the day can a machine really be creative?
⭐️We might think about the future and sustainability. How will our impact on the environment generate opportunities for creativity and innovation?

As art increasingly intersects with digital technologies like AR and AI, how can we incorporate these advancements into our teaching practice to enrich the existing skills, knowledge, and historical context that visual art provides?

This year, we’re excited to present a diverse range of Saturday Workshops that demonstrate how to seamlessly integrate these technologies into the future of Visual Arts. Explore the workshops on offer and secure your tickets at https://qata.qld.edu.au/qatacon24-create-the-future/
